About Salem

Salem Ranch exists to allow teenage boys, Christian or non-Christian, to come to a rural setting and work on life issues that are preventing them from being successful in their homes and communities.  It is here that they can gain the skills they need to restore the relationships that have been broken.  All of this is done in the context of a Christian environment, with staff who teach, train, and correct from a Christian worldview.

We reside on a 100-acre horse ranch with about 50 horses on the premises.  The boys learn to ride horses, care for horses, and clean up after horses.  They bond with the horses and can spend time with them as needed.  In addition, we teach the boys some vocational skills they will need in life, such as basic carpentry, plumbing, and car maintenance among other things.  We also operate a boarding school where the boys work on academics for five hours per day with certified teachers.

Each boy who comes to Salem is assigned to a master’s level counselor who meets with him on a weekly basis to sort through the things that have resulted in his being sent here.  It is through this counseling and the ‘in the moment’ opportunities with the staff on a daily basis that lives are changed, as boys are shown how to handle situations in a biblical manner that brings glory to God.
